MSH Educational Fund

This section concerns MSH members who wish to apply for sponsorship to attend meetings and workshops.

Access to the fund is by first come first serve basis.

BACKGROUND

The MSH education fund was started in 2007 to promote research and publication in haematology and upgrade the knowledge of MSH members. The fund may be used for;

  • Attendance at major local, regional or international conferences
  • Attendance to workshops related to haematology.
  • Publication fees for internationally recognised ISI or SCOPUS journals
  • Funds for organising courses for the benefit of Haematology development in Malaysia

A maximum of RM 120,000 has been allocated per calendar year.

ELIGIBILITY

  • All life members and term associate members are eligible.
  • Associate members and ordinary members are eligible for local conferences only and can apply only after one membership year and upon renewal of membership.
  • All trainees, MPath, MMed and Master of Science students are encouraged to submit abstracts for a poster or oral presentation, and those who do so will be given priority.

AMOUNT COVERED

Local Course/Conference

Registration fees only (Accommodation and airfare can be considered for outstation applicants on a case-to-case basis)

Overseas Course/Conference
  • Up to RM8,000 inclusive of registration, flight and accommodation.
  • Breakdown of expenses to be submitted by the applicant to the educational fund committee.
  • Food and ground transfer will not be covered and will be borne by the applicant.
  • The amount can be increased on a case-to-case basis if the applicant can justify it. This has to be vetted and approved by the Education Fund Committee.
Organizing Courses
  • Each centre is only eligible for one application per year up to RM5000.
  • A breakdown of expenditure has to be submitted eg airfare and accommodation of overseas speakers
  • Allocation of at least 10% slots should be open for MSH members. However, if the slots are not filled by the registration deadline, it can be opened to non-members.
  • MSH should be acknowledged as a co-sponsor.
Funding for Publication in Journals
  • There must be proof of acceptance by either an ISI or SCOPUS journal for publication in order to apply.
  • There may only be one application per publication (even if multiple members contribute to the same paper)
  • The maximum amount of sponsorship is RM 2000 per publication, limited to a maximum of RM 10000 of funds in a calendar year.

FREQUENCY

Each member can apply for the fund only once in a calendar year.

NATURE OF CME/CONFERENCE COVERED

Included

  • Haematology-related conference and workshop
  • Research-related conferences and workshop
  • Patient education workshop

Excluded

  • Non-hematology related eg team building, motivational workshop

NUMBER OF SPONSORSHIP PER EVENT

The number of candidates to be sponsored per conference/workshop is limited to three people and will be at the discretion of the education fund subcommittee

TERMS AND CONDITION

  • Members applying for the education fund are required to fill up the official application form, which can be downloaded from the MSH website.
  • The meeting brochure, breakdown of expenses and abstract of the presentation (if applicable) has to be submitted with the application form at least six weeks before the meeting.
  • All members who have received the education fund need to submit a copy of their certificate of attendance and a report to the MSH secretary within a month of the conference, and this may be published in the Society newsletter. Members who fail to comply may be blacklisted for future applications.
