2nd ASEAN Federation of Haematology Scientific Congress

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you that preparations for the Second ASEAN Federation of Haematology Scientific Congress to be held at the Waterfront Conference centre, Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore from 7th – 8th September 2012 are well underway.

The scientific programme has brought together many exciting speakers, many of whom are from regional and international centres with special interests and possessing a wealth of experience in their respective topics. Besides, these speakers will specifically address the concerns of the haematologist working in the ASEAN region, as many will address problems specifically pertinent in the region, problems like bleeding associated with dengue infection, haemoglobin E, NK/T cell lymphomas and myeloma management of a South-East Asian population. I am especially excited about the two plenary lectures. One deals with how to avail all that we have (the wonderful technology for diagnosis and prognostication and very effective medications for deadly malignancies) to the haematology patient who may have difficulties accessing these haematological breakthroughs. The other deals with the ever-persistent problem of anaemias due to nutritional deficiencies – are there still blind spots after dealing with iron and vitamin B12 deficiency?

So come join us this Sep 7-8 and be refreshed in your service to your haematology patients. Come and take away a new perspective on your work as you mingle and share your experiences with fellow colleagues in your country and around the region. Check out our congress website (www.afh2012.com) and encourage your colleagues – fellow haematologists, junior doctors, nurses, medical technologists, scientists and students to participate in this biennial congress.

We look forward to seeing you.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Ong Kiat Hoe

President,
ASEAN Federation of Haematology
Chair, Organising Committee,
